REVIEWS / COMMENTS:

An unlikely, alluring and ultimately adroit mix of influences, that should not really mesh together, but nonetheless do so in the most beguiling of ways. It should be a mess. It perhaps sounds a mess..however one listen will make you wonder why no other band has touched upon such originality as yet? - Janglepophub

Think of the best American indie pop (like, say Holiday Flyer or Fireflies) touched with some UK gunk (maybe like a Bobby Wratten project but not that dramatic or produced) and the cobwebs picked off the Captured Tracks stable and you’re in the ballpark. It all seems kind of simple and unassuming, which it is, but I guarantee after the first listen you’ll be coming back for repeated listens. - Dagger Zine

The soul of the song is a chiming guitar riff, a little bit Byrds but a little bit better. ‘As Simple as That’ is no wall of sound; each note rings true and there’s enough space in the mix to hear the fingers on the frets. Listen as the guitar player steps to the edge of the stage at two-minutes-thirty-five for a solo that summons the undead ghost of Roger McGuinn. - Reverb Raccoon

Ryan has a knack for a knockout melody, a gentle hook and a plaintive vocal to ride the tune. Obvious references (to our ears) include The Go-Betweens, Galaxie 500, and Peter Astor. This is a great EP for sitting on the deck on a gentle summer night with the automatic replay button engaged and a chilled bottle within reach. - When You Motor Away...

There's that Ride-esque vocal line on the first track...so
good... I like the jingle jangleness of it all plus the mellowness
makes it both good sunshine pop as well as rainy day pop - Naomi of Mod Lang Records

My first run through, I could hear the indiepop vibes going on in the vocals; they have that melodic softness that makes fans of the genre swoon. Musically, it had this almost classic psychedelic pop moment, but the more I listened, the more I feel like the band has no problem calling themselves fans of acts like Television Personalities. Sure, there’s a nostalgic rock vibe, but it has this bounce to it that you’ll surely find yourself enjoying this afternoon - Austin Town Hall

Ryan Marquez’s “The Umbrella Puzzles” is a one man band. This vehicle given Marquez the complete control to create an ode to his influences. All I can say, is that if you like this don’t wait - Bandcamp Snoop

This EP has 6 songs of lo-fi indiepop that are catchy, dreamy, sweet. Really lovely debut. - Cloudberry Cake Proselytism

Ryan Marquez, also of Apple Orchard and Golden Teardrops is clearly fond of colourful band names. He's also studied the Pete Astor songbook closely but I'm not one to complain about that....jangling, melodic Indie guitar songs - It Starts with a Birth Stone

An EP of enticing lo-fi indie pop. It fuses some of the slacker-esque rock of Pavement with the melodic sweetness of 80s jangle pop to great effect. It feels like an intimate sonic hug - Chaotic Neutral Gang

A new EP by The Umbrella Puzzles is an essential acquisition - Wally Salem of The Beautiful Music

Gorgeous sounds! - Josh Meadows (The Steinbecks/The Sugargliders)
